Dr. Seuss Birthday Party
The Town of Taos, UNM-Taos, and the LOR Foundation are excited to invite the community to celebrate Dr. Seuss Birthday with an afternoon of reading, fun, and community on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Bataan Hall, 121 Civic Plaza Drive, Taos, NM. This free event is open to all ages, offering a perfect opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading in a creative and Dr. Seuss setting. Come dressed as your favorite Dr. Seuss character and join in the fun. The first 6 kids to arrive will receive a special prize. Special guests will be Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Cat in the Hat, The Lorax and Thing 1 and 2. There will be activities including balloon animals, craft making, face painting, games, giveaways (including a drawstring backpack and book*), Storytime, free T-shirts for youth participants (*while supplies and sizes last), and community booths. ACTIVITIES, GAMES, GIVEAWAYS AND FUN COMMUNITY BOOTHS INCLUDE: • Albertsons Market will be providing giveaways and games. • Collins Lake Ranch will be providing a Star-Bellied Sneetches star-making nature craft activity and a book giveaway. • Community Against Violence will be providing CAV information and crafts. • D. C Barrone Photography will be providing a photobooth. • Darien Fernandez, Town of Taos Council Member, will be handing out the prizes to the first 6 kids if they are dressed in their favorite Dr. Seuss character. • Emily Cordova, 2025 Taos Rodeo de Taos Queen, will be assisting at the tic tac toe game, Jenga, and Connect Four. • EnSuenos Y Los Angelitos will be providing sensory activities, information to families about early intervention. • Family Engagement TMS will be distributing family engagement information, free giveaways, and activities. • Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Program will be providing a spin a wheel, giveaways, and prizes. • Friends of the Taos Public Library will be providing candy and membership forms. • Girl Scouts will be providing Girl Scouts membership information, a prize wheel with giveaways, crafts, and tiny book pins. • Harwood Museum of Art will be providing an activity – colorful painting. • J.C Photography will be providing a photobooth. • LOR Foundation will be providing a book giveaway and T-shirt giveaway. • Mountain Home Healthcare will be providing health education coloring books and crayons for kids, and promotional products for adults. • Mystic Dance will be assisting with temporary tattoos and the character costumes. • North Central RTD will be providing Blue Bus promotional items: stickers, sunglasses, etc., coloring sheets, Taos area bus schedules and MyBlue information. • Rocky Mountain Youth Corps will be conducting a New Mexico Community Survey for adults and lockable baggies for parents. • Taos Academy Charter School Student Council and National Honor Society will be assisting at the balloon animals and face painting booth. • Taos Healthcare will be providing games, giveaways, and Taos Healthcare information. • Taos High School Dance Team will be distributing the goodie bags. • Taos HIVE will be providing an information booth. • Taos County DWI/Teen Court will be providing alcohol and drug awareness, give-a-ways with bookmarks, coloring books, crayons, stickers, posters, and Fatal Vision Goggles. When worn, the participants get a perception of an individual that has been drinking. • Taos Milagro Rotary Club – For the Love of Reading will be providing Dr. Seuss books, bookmarks, and pencils. • Taos Public Library will be providing a book giveaway. • Tiny Tots Academy will be providing book reading, different Dr. Seuss books, and activities to match. • Tiwa Babies will be providing outreach, information, giveaways, and activities. • Town of Taos Community Events Volunteers will be assisting at the activity booth, the paper hat booth, a character costume and the T-shirt giveaway. • UNM-Taos will be providing UNM swag as giveaways and a spin wheel game. • UNM-Taos Library will be distributing information and free giveaways. • YDI Head Start will be providing giveaways. STORYTIME STARTS AT 2:00 PM. Join us as our wonderful community leaders bring Dr. Seuss stories to life! Special Guest Readers are Mark Flores, Taos Municipal School Board President, reading the One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish; Marietta Fambro, Town of Taos Council Member, reading The Cat in the Hat; Sara Blankenhorn, Judge, 8th Judicial District Magistrate Court, reading Green Eggs and Ham; Darien Fernandez, Town of Taos Council Member, reading The Lorax; Genevieve Oswald, Town of Taos Council Member and Bob Romero, Taos County Commissioner, reading The Butter Battle Book; Kayla Platoff and Dave Mansfield, UNM-Taos Librarians, reading Oh, The Places You’ll Go!; and Pascualito Maestas, Mayor of Taos, reading the Dr. Seuss Birthday Party and Reading Awareness Day Proclamation. Genevieve Oswald, Town of Taos Council Member, will be the MC. Come listen, laugh, and let your imagination soar as local leaders bring these beloved stories to life! Whether you are a lifelong Dr. Seuss fan or a newcomer to his magical world, this event is a wonderful way to celebrate reading, fun, and community together. We look forward to seeing community members for a memorable afternoon that will inspire creativity and a love of reading in all who attend.
